aerial lift soft wash safety in LaGrange

In LaGrange, this comes up on historic-district houses, college-side streets, and the larger lots toward Vernon Road and Callaway. LaGrange clay does not rinse off a driveway with a garden hose, and shaded brick grows a green film by late summer. Two-story houses with a narrow side yard are the usual problem. The building can need a lift and still not have a place to put one.

January here is gutters full of oak, a porch that needs to look right for guests, and the odd jobs that got postponed all year.

Height is how washes get uneven and how people get hurt. A ladder and a long wand, used as a substitute for access, leaves stripes and puts someone on the wrong step. When the elevation is truly off the ground — a second or third story, a church, an apartment breezeway, a warehouse eave — the method is a rented boom or scissor lift, sized to the building, with the wash done from the basket.

The site has to accept the machine. Soft ground, a steep drive, overhead lines, and no legal place to set up are reasons to stop. We look before we order the lift when the photos are ambiguous. The lift is in the price of that visit. It is not a surprise line item after we are already there, unless the site was not what the photos showed.

We do not wash from a lift we are not qualified to run, and we do not put a client in the basket. High work is the job. It is not a ride.

The full explanation, without the town attached, is the when the job is a lift, and when it is a no article. The town does not change the chemistry. It changes the houses, the shade, and the clay.
