Roof soft washing
Black streaks and algae lifted off architectural shingles without a pressure washer on the roof.
Those dark streaks on a shaded West Georgia roof are algae, usually Gloeocapsa magma, not dirt. Pressure washing a shingle roof strips granules and shortens the roof. Doing nothing lets the colonies spread down the slope.
Roof work is a soft wash from the surface or a controlled application from the eaves, depending on pitch and access. The goal is to kill the growth and let it release, not to scour the shingle. Valleys, lower courses, and the north slope get the attention. We do not walk a roof that is too steep or too brittle.
